Working hours: 39 hours per week (flexible)
Core hours: 09:30 - 14:30 Mon - Thurs, 09:30 - 12:00 Friday
Main purpose of role:
The designer interprets the design intent derived from the project brief provided by
the General Arrangement (GA) and Design Specification. From this, design aspects
address all interior and exterior furniture, fixtures and fittings. This also includes
coverings for engineering systems e.g., air conditioning, piping & looms, providing
fully integrated and aesthetically pleasing detail for the customer.
Use of critical thinking, good technical and or creative ability to solve problems. An
understanding of weight, waste and a basic to good understanding of design for
manufacture knowledge.
To support the yachts into production, by change management.
To adhere to the schedule and NPD process specified by a development summary
and weekly smart sheet task set by project planner.
Work collaboratively with other disciplines in development and presenting your work
to the team 'Seniors'.
Main responsibilities:
• Work to the annual objectives of the design department.
• Design an area of the yachts design. For example: design of a port cabin or
cockpit.
• Design spaces & furniture that suit the creative direction briefed by the
concept/creative team.
• Create intelligent designs that maximize space, storage and integrate
services seamlessly.
• Produce initial sketches / 3D prelim ideation models of furniture and details to
present to the project leads.
• Review, modify and finalise designs into a solved 3D Design model that meets
all standards.
• Produce Interior and exterior productions drawings (E.g. Graphic packs,
lighting & Switches, upholstery drawings).
• Design spaces & furniture that suit the creative direction briefed by the
concept/creative team & fit with the Princess Brand.
• Designs must meet the project brief, project specification and customer
options form.
• NX 2D & 3D CAD : Intermediate (solid modelling geometry.. 2D plans &
drafting)
• Surfacing Designer to also be able to surfaces suitable for 5 axis cutting (some
complex)
• Good knowledge of: Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, Smartsheet, PowerPoint
• Some knowledge of Adobe photoshop & Illustrator.
• Interior furniture design: Intermediate (Galley Base units, Coffee tables,
headlining, bulkheads).
• Exterior furniture design: Intermediate (Seating / complex headlining)
• Design for manufacture: Intermediate.
• Upholstery Design: Intermediate (Curved panels / Seating)
• Design communication: Intermediate (sketch/3D Prelim models/presentation
documents)
• 3D and 2D CAD modelling and surfacing (Role dependent) using Siemens NX.
• Basic knowledge of mechanism design.
• Understanding of budgets and manufacturing feasibility.
• To support the yachts into production, by change management and value
engineering.
• Working collaboratively with engineering, CAD and naval architecture
departments.
• Involvement in the NPI and NPD process.
• Assist with research and development projects.
• Support of the Development department’s other design disciplines when
required.
• PYL Systems: Basic Chess, Change notes, Radar, ADP
• Adherence to standards (Brief/Spec/Order Form/Lineout/ CPC/DS)
• Self-checking / Sign off of detailed CAD models with supervision/support.
• PYL and competitor product/brand awareness
• Budget / ROI - use with support
A reasonable amount of overtime is required to at peak times of release or build
support.
